Tai otoshi

Tai Otoshi, commonly referred to as the 'Body Drop,' is a powerful hand technique that utilizes precise timing, positioning, and body movement to off-balance and throw the opponent. Unlike throws that rely on lifting or sweeping, Tai Otoshi emphasizes using the opponent's forward momentum against them. To execute Tai Otoshi, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. As they step forward or attempt to close the distance, quickly extend your leg across their path, blocking their movement. Simultaneously, use your grips to pull them forward and downward while rotating your body and dropping your hips. This combination of blocking, pulling, and dropping disrupts the opponent's balance and causes them to fall forward over your extended leg. Proper timing, positioning, and the ability to use the opponent's momentum are crucial for a successful Tai Otoshi. The drop variation, which includes sacrificing your own posture to the ground may also be applied. However, this throw must be performed safely to prevent injuring your opponent.
