Hane Goshi Gaeshi, known as the 'Spring Hip Throw Reversal,' is a counter technique used to defend against and reverse an opponent's Hane Goshi (Spring Hip Throw) attempt. As the opponent tries to spring their leg against yours to lift and throw you, you counter by blocking their leg, shifting your weight, and using their momentum against them. To execute Hane Goshi Gaeshi, establish a firm upper body grip, typically on the collar and sleeve. As the opponent attacks with Hane Goshi, quickly use your leg to block their springing leg, preventing them from completing the throw. Simultaneously, shift your weight and use your upper body grips to pull the opponent forward and off-balance while rotating your body. This combination of blocking, pulling, and rotating reverses their momentum and allows you to throw them in the direction of their attempted attack. The effectiveness of this counter depends on precise timing, a strong grip, and the ability to use the opponent's energy to your advantage.
