Tsuri Goshi, commonly called the 'Lifting Hip Throw,' is a powerful technique that involves lifting the opponent onto your hip before executing the throw. It is often used when you have a strong grip on the opponent's belt or back. There are two main variations: O Tsuri Goshi (major lifting hip throw) and Ko Tsuri Goshi (minor lifting hip throw). In O Tsuri Goshi, you lift the opponent high onto your hip, almost to your chest level, before throwing them. In Ko Tsuri Goshi, the lift is less pronounced, and the opponent is thrown from a lower hip position. To perform Tsuri Goshi, establish a firm grip on the opponent's belt or back with one hand and their sleeve or collar with the other. Bend your knees, lower your hips, and pull the opponent towards you, lifting them onto your hip. Once they are in position, rotate your body and use your hip as a fulcrum to throw them to the mat. A less common variation, due to modern rule sets, is the 'sleeve lifting hip throw', often referred to as 'Sode Tsuri Komi Goshi'.
