Uchi Makikomi

akaInner Wraparound

/Overview

Uchi Makikomi, translated as 'Inner Wraparound Throw,' is a sacrifice throw that combines the reaping action of Uchi Mata with a wrapping or winding motion to take the opponent down. It is typically executed by stepping across the opponent's body, reaping their inner thigh, and simultaneously wrapping your arm around their body while falling to the mat. To perform Uchi Makikomi, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. Step forward and across the opponent's body with your lead leg, positioning your other leg to reap their inner thigh, similar to Uchi Mata. Use your leg to reap their thigh while simultaneously wrapping your arm around their body and falling to your side or back. The combination of the leg reap, the wrapping motion, and the sacrifice action creates a powerful takedown. This technique is similar to some previously mentioned, such as harai makikomi. In fact, the primary difference may simply be how far your leg reaches to reap the opponents leg. This throw is often considered dangerous.
