Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi, translated as 'Supporting Foot Lift-Pull Throw,' is a foot sweep technique that utilizes precise timing and body positioning to off-balance and throw the opponent. It is often used when the opponent is moving forward or when their weight is on their front foot. To perform Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. As they step forward, use the sole of your foot to block and lift their advancing foot, preventing them from placing their weight on it. Simultaneously, use your grips to pull the opponent forward and upward, further disrupting their balance. The combination of the foot block, lifting action, and pulling motion creates a swift and effective takedown. It's similar in effect to de ashi harai but relies on different mechanics. Proper timing and coordination between the foot block and the upper body action are crucial for a successful Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi.
