Obi Tori Gaeshi

akaBelt Drop
1 / 1
/Overview

Obi Tori Gaeshi, often translated as 'Belt Grab Reversal,' is a dynamic throw that utilizes the opponent's belt (obi) against them. This technique is particularly effective when the opponent attempts a forward throw or tries to establish a strong grip on your upper body. To execute Obi Tori Gaeshi, secure a firm grip on the opponent's belt with both hands. As they move forward or try to unbalance you, use their momentum to your advantage. While maintaining your grip on the belt, drop your hips and rotate your body, pulling them over your hip or thigh. The combination of your pulling action, hip rotation, and the opponent's forward momentum creates a powerful throw that can send them crashing to the mat. This technique is now rarely seen.
