O Uchi Gaeshi

akaMajor Inner Reversal
1 / 1
/Overview

O Uchi Gaeshi, commonly referred to as the 'Major Inner Reversal,' is a counter technique used to defend against and reverse an opponent's O Uchi Gari (Major Inner Reaping Throw) attempt. As the opponent tries to reap your leg from the inside, you counter by blocking their leg, shifting your weight, and using their momentum against them. To execute O Uchi Gaeshi, establish a firm upper body grip, typically on the collar and sleeve. As the opponent attacks with O Uchi Gari, quickly use your leg to block their reaping leg, preventing them from completing the throw. Simultaneously, shift your weight and use your upper body grips to pull the opponent forward and off-balance while rotating your body. This combination of blocking, pulling, and rotating reverses their momentum and allows you to throw them in the direction of their attempted attack. The effectiveness of this counter depends on precise timing, a strong grip, and the ability to use the opponent's energy to your advantage. This is a particularly effective counter against the major inner reap, disrupting an opponents base during this motion should disrupt the rest of their motion.
