Seoi Nage

akaShoulder Throw
1 / 1
/Overview

Seoi Nage, commonly referred to as the 'Shoulder Throw', is a powerful and dynamic throw in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu that involves lifting and throwing the opponent over your shoulder. To perform a Seoi Nage, establish a strong grip on your opponent's sleeve and collar. Then, lower your hips, bend your knees, and position your dominant-side shoulder under their armpit while pulling their sleeve to break their posture. In one fluid motion, pull them forward and upwards while rotating your body, using your hip as a fulcrum to throw them over your shoulder. The throw's effectiveness lies in using your opponent's momentum against them, combined with a strong pulling action and a well-timed hip rotation. This throw is used to gain the ippon or an instant victory but must be performed safely and correctly. The drop seoi nage variation is the most commonly applied variant in jiu jitsu.
