O Soto Makikomi, known as the 'Major Outer Wrap-Around Throw,' is a sacrifice throw that combines the reaping action of O Soto Gari with a wrapping or winding motion to take the opponent down. It is typically executed by stepping across the opponent's body, reaping their outer leg, and simultaneously wrapping your arm around their body while falling to the mat. To perform O Soto Makikomi, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. Step forward and across the opponent's body with your lead leg, positioning your other leg behind their outer leg, similar to O Soto Gari. Use your leg to reap their leg from the outside while simultaneously wrapping your arm around their body and falling to your side or back. The combination of the leg reap, the wrapping motion, and the sacrifice action creates a powerful takedown. Similar to other variations this technique is sometimes referred to as a 'drop' technique due to the lowering of posture to achieve the technique.
