Ushiro Goshi

akaRear Hip Throw
1 / 1
/Overview

Ushiro Goshi, translated as 'Rear Hip Throw,' is a powerful counter-throw that is typically executed when the opponent attempts a forward throw, such as a hip throw or a shoulder throw. As the opponent initiates their attack, you counter by quickly stepping behind them and wrapping your arms around their waist or hips. To perform Ushiro Goshi, establish a strong grip on the opponent's body, typically by locking your hands around their waist. As they commit to their throw, use their forward momentum against them by lifting them upwards and backwards while rotating your hips. This action breaks their balance and allows you to throw them over your hip or lower back. The effectiveness of Ushiro Goshi relies on precise timing, a strong grip, and the ability to use the opponent's energy to your advantage. In the modern format, the ushiro goshi may often be used to take the back of an opponent rather than achieving a throw.
