Ko Soto Gake, known as the 'Minor Outer Hook,' is a leg throw that involves hooking the opponent's leg from the outside while using your upper body to off-balance and throw them. It is often used as a follow-up to a failed O Soto Gari or as a counter to an opponent's forward movement. To perform Ko Soto Gake, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. As they step forward or attempt to off-balance you, quickly step to the outside of their leg and hook your leg around their ankle or lower calf. Simultaneously, use your upper body grips to pull the opponent forward and sideways, disrupting their balance. The combination of the leg hook and the upper body pull creates a powerful takedown, often resulting in the opponent falling backward or to the side.
