Morote Gari

akaTwo Hand Reap

/Overview

Morote Gari, commonly known as the 'Double Leg Takedown', is a powerful wrestling-based takedown that involves grabbing both of the opponent's legs and driving them to the ground. To execute Morote Gari, lower your level and penetrate forward, aiming to wrap both of your arms around the opponent's legs, just above their knees. Secure a firm grip, either by locking your hands or clasping your wrists. Once you have control of their legs, lift them slightly off the ground while driving forward with your shoulder into their thighs. This combination of lifting and driving forces the opponent off balance and takes them down to the mat. Proper posture, a deep penetration step, and a strong driving force are essential for a successful Morote Gari. This technique has also been removed from use in modern competition judo due to being considered 'a double leg reap'.
