Ude Hishigi Hara Gatame

akaAbdominal Arm Lock
1 / 1
/Overview

Ude Hishigi Hara Gatame, commonly referred to as the 'Stomach Arm Lock' or 'Belly-Down Armbar,' is a submission technique that involves using your stomach or abdomen to apply pressure to the opponent's elbow joint, forcing a hyperextension. It is typically applied when the opponent is lying face down on the mat. To perform Ude Hishigi Hara Gatame, position yourself on top of the opponent's back, perpendicular to their body. Secure control of one of their arms by trapping it between your arm and body. Place your stomach or abdomen on the back of their upper arm, just above the elbow joint. Use your other arm to control their wrist or forearm. To finish the submission, apply downward pressure with your stomach while simultaneously lifting their wrist, creating a hyperextension of the elbow joint. This technique is often used in transition, for example during a scramble situation.
