Kata Juji Jime, often translated as 'Half Cross Choke,' is a choking technique that involves using a combination of grips on the opponent's collar to apply pressure to the carotid arteries and cut off blood flow to the brain. It is typically applied from the top position when the opponent is lying on their back. To perform Kata Juji Jime, establish a position on top of the opponent, such as mount or side control. With one hand, grip the opponent's collar on the same side as your gripping hand, with your thumb inside the collar and fingers outside. Your other hand grips the opponent's opposite collar, also with your thumb inside and fingers outside. The hands are crossed, with one hand gripping higher on the collar than the other. To finish the choke, pull both collars towards each other while rotating your wrists outwards. This action tightens the collars around the opponent's neck, applying pressure to the carotid arteries and causing a blood choke. It's a relatively powerful position that can quickly render an opponent unconscious if not respected.
