Ryote Jime, often translated as 'Two-Hand Choke,' is a fundamental choking technique that involves using both hands to apply pressure to the opponent's neck, constricting the carotid arteries and cutting off blood flow to the brain. It is a simple yet effective submission that can be used in various grappling situations. To perform Ryote Jime, position yourself in front of the opponent and use both hands to grip their collar or lapel on opposite sides of their neck. Your hands should be positioned with the thumbs inside the collar and the fingers outside, creating a firm grip. To execute the choke, simultaneously pull both ends of the collar towards each other while rotating your wrists outwards. This action tightens the collar around the opponent's neck, applying pressure to the carotid arteries and causing a blood choke. This is a relatively safe and simple technique, making it an essential technique for anyone studying the art. However, due to it's reliance on the gi it is less common in a no-gi format.
