Tomoe Nage

akaCircle Throw
1 / 1
/Overview

Tomoe Nage, commonly known as the 'Circle Throw,' is a sacrifice throw that involves falling backward while using your foot to lift and throw the opponent over your head. It is often used when the opponent is moving forward or has a strong forward posture. To perform Tomoe Nage, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. As they step forward, quickly drop to your back while placing one foot on the opponent's stomach or hip. Use your foot as a pivot point to lift and propel the opponent forward and over your head. Simultaneously, use your grips to pull them towards you and guide their movement. The combination of the foot placement, the pulling action, and the backward rolling motion creates a dynamic and powerful throw. The Tomoe Nage may also be applied as a 'yoko' or side variation.
