Kami Shiho Gatame, commonly referred to as the 'Upper Four Quarters Hold' or 'Top Pin,' is a dominant grappling position where you control the opponent from their head, facing their feet. It is often used in Judo and other grappling arts to immobilize the opponent and set up submissions. To establish Kami Shiho Gatame, position yourself at the opponent's head, with your chest facing their feet. Secure a firm grip around their head and both arms, using your chest and body weight to pin them to the mat. Your legs should be spread wide for stability, and your hips should be low to maintain control. The 'four quarters' in the name refers to the four quadrants of the opponent's body that you are controlling with your limbs. From Kami Shiho Gatame, you can control the opponent's movement, prevent them from escaping, and set up various submissions, such as chokes and arm locks. This is generally used as a pinning position.
