Kata Guruma, famously known as the 'Shoulder Wheel' or 'Fireman's Carry', is a dynamic and visually impressive throw that involves lifting the opponent onto your shoulders before throwing them to the mat. To execute Kata Guruma, establish a grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. Lower your hips and position yourself in front of them. Bend down and reach between their legs with one arm, grasping their thigh or belt, while maintaining your sleeve grip. In one fluid motion, lift the opponent onto your shoulders by straightening your legs and pulling their sleeve across your body. Once they are balanced on your shoulders, rotate your body and throw them forward or to the side. Due to the dynamic nature of this technique it is one of the more frequently seen in modern competition. The key to a successful Kata Guruma lies in the proper positioning, the lifting action, and the controlled rotation during the throw.
