Ippon Seoi Nage

akaOne Arm Shoulder Throw
1 / 1
/Overview

Ippon Seoi Nage, which translates to 'One Arm Shoulder Throw,' is a variation of the traditional Seoi Nage (Shoulder Throw) that is executed using only one arm to control the opponent. This technique is particularly useful when you are unable to secure a grip on the opponent's collar or when they are defending against a standard two-handed shoulder throw. To perform Ippon Seoi Nage, establish a strong grip on the opponent's sleeve with your dominant hand. Lower your hips and position your dominant-side shoulder under their armpit, similar to a standard Seoi Nage. However, instead of gripping their collar with your other hand, use it to control their same-side arm or to secure a grip on their belt or back. Pull them forward and upwards while rotating your body, using your hip and shoulder as a fulcrum to throw them over your shoulder. This is far more commonly applied as a 'drop' technique.
