Yoko Guruma, translated as 'Side Wheel,' is a sacrifice throw that involves using your leg as a 'wheel' or axis around which you rotate and throw your opponent to the side. It is often used when the opponent is moving forward or when their weight is shifted onto one leg. To perform Yoko Guruma, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. As they step forward, quickly drop to your side while placing your leg across the front of the opponent's body, between their legs. Your leg should be relatively straight and act as a pivot point. Simultaneously, use your arms to pull the opponent towards you and in a circular motion, rotating them over your leg. The combination of the leg placement, pulling action, and body rotation creates a dynamic throw that is difficult to defend against. Yoko guruma is technically classified as a sacrifice throw.
