Ude Hishigi Hiza Gatame

akaKnee Arm Lock
1 / 1
/Overview

Ude Hishigi Hiza Gatame, commonly known as the 'Knee Arm Lock' or 'Knee Arm Bar,' is a submission technique that utilizes the knee to assist in isolating and hyperextending the opponent's elbow joint. It is often used when transitioning from a dominant position, such as the mount or side control. To perform Ude Hishigi Hiza Gatame, establish control of the opponent's arm, typically by gripping their wrist or forearm. Position your knee on the back of their upper arm, just above the elbow joint, using it as a fulcrum. Maintain a firm grip on their wrist with both hands. To finish the submission, apply downward pressure with your knee while simultaneously lifting their wrist, creating a hyperextension of the elbow joint. Your other leg should be used to maintain balance and prevent the opponent from rolling or escaping. The knee placement and the lifting action create a powerful arm lock that can force a submission. The position is advantageous as it allows you to use your leg and body weight rather than only your arms.
