Ko Uchi Gaeshi, often called the 'Minor Inner Reversal', is a counter-throw technique primarily used to defend against inner-leg reaping attacks like Ko Uchi Gari. As your opponent attempts to sweep your supporting leg from the inside, you counter by swiftly shifting your weight and using a small hopping or stepping motion with your other leg. This action redirects their momentum and prevents the sweep. Simultaneously, you maintain a firm grip on their upper body, typically the collar and sleeve, to control their posture and further disrupt their balance. The timing and coordination between your leg movement and upper body control are crucial for executing this counter effectively. This can create an opening to use one of the many counter throws, off balancing your opponent and forcing a fall or a takedown. These positions often result in a scramble situation.
