Seoi Otoshi

akaKneeling Shoulder Drop
1 / 1
/Overview

Seoi Otoshi, often called the 'Kneeling Shoulder Drop,' is a variation of the shoulder throw where the thrower drops to one or both knees while executing the technique. This lower position creates a different angle and leverage for the throw compared to the standing Seoi Nage. To perform Seoi Otoshi, establish a firm grip on the opponent's sleeve and collar. As they move forward or attempt to establish their balance, quickly drop to one or both knees while pulling the opponent over your shoulder. The sudden drop and pulling action disrupts their balance and makes it difficult for them to resist the throw. The key to a successful Seoi Otoshi lies in the timing of the drop, the strong pulling action, and the ability to maintain control of the opponent throughout the throw.
