Technique Description

O Goshi, known as the 'Major Hip Throw,' is one of the most fundamental and widely practiced hip throws in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. It involves using your hip as a fulcrum to lift and throw your opponent over your body. To execute O Goshi, establish a standard grip with one hand on the opponent's sleeve and the other on their lapel. Step across their body with your lead leg, placing your hip against theirs while bending your knees and lowering your center of gravity. Wrap your lapel-gripping arm around their waist, securing a firm grip. Pull the opponent towards you, breaking their balance and lifting them onto your hip. Rotate your body and use your hip to throw them over your body and to the mat. The key to a successful O Goshi lies in the proper positioning, the strong pulling action, and the explosive hip rotation. It is a powerful throw that can be used both offensively and defensively.
