Worm Guard

1 / 3
/Overview

The worm guard is a complex position made famous by Keenan Cornelius. It mainly uses an opponent's own gi lapels (or material on other apparel with similar length/strengths) that is manipulated using it around the controlling leg by placing it over or around it before the grip itself. This enhances the pressure that a body usually cannot on its own, giving unique ways to set up sweeps and many limb controls. It does this by applying all that leverage from what the fabric now creates, which increases the efficiency of force from those limb lock mechanics by locking an opponent in compromised forms when not expected by their side. This is also a defensive option as it blocks all forms of typical or even unusual guard passing systems for bottom users to effectively shut them down during that crucial moment.
