Williams Guard

1 / 3
/Overview

The Williams Guard, developed by Shawn Williams, which has slowly come up as a solid, less frequently known control type, has similar and related goals as any usual bottom-based guard. The user attempts to control their top counterpart's posture while generating ways to use base and limb entanglement during sweeps for transitional positional areas. Start the setup while working on trapping of the opponent's arms while making under-hook grips from lower-level positions. To gain control, secure those grip-based actions by securing one arm under your leg while your other acts in tandem to work controlling positions from their body, your upper body, and/or other limbs using different angles of base while securing. You also want a position that can be easily used to begin your sweep attempts. You may manipulate their balance or initiate sub-attempts, but the focus should still mainly be on position-based controlling styles of combat while creating pathways that only you, as a skilled bottom control-style player, should use for optimal and more offensive base.
