Monoplata

1 / 3
/Overview

The monoplata is a unique shoulder lock that blends the fundamentals of armbars and omoplatas. It is often applied from the mounted position but can also be used from side control. Begin by gaining grips and pulling up and under the opponent's shoulder while making contact with your body on their elbow joint to lift and isolate their arm. Ensure the arm is tightly secured across your torso. Then, using a rotational motion while controlling the opponent's limbs and shoulders, lift from your lower hips towards your head. This body rotation locks the arm while adding force through hip extension, forcing the opponent to tap due to the angle created on the shoulder and arm.
