The Mir lock, named after MMA fighter Frank Mir, is a potent and potentially dangerous shoulder lock. It is usually set up from positions that offer control over the opponent's limbs, such as side control or top half-guard. To execute the Mir lock, lock the opponent's arm as close to your torso as possible, tucking it across your body. Secure a grip by placing one hand on your own hand, with the opponent's shoulder and arm trapped in between and across your stomach/upper torso. Your hips should have space to act as the pivotal force for the rotation. Apply the finishing mechanics by twisting both your and the opponent's limbs, putting severe stress on their locked shoulder and forcing a submission. Proper application and speed can damage the opponent's ligaments, so exercise caution during training.
