Mermaid Sweep

akaThe 'Mermaid'
1 / 5
/Overview

The Mermaid Sweep is a technique performed typically when the opponent is standing with a narrow base. Typically when they stand up out of closed guard, the practitioner uses their legs to capture and lock both legs while simultaneously pushing off with their hips and trapping an arm. This creates a sweeping motion that off-balances the opponent, allowing the practitioner to come up on top into a dominant position. It's a sneaky and effective sweep that can catch opponents off guard, especially when they underestimate the closed guard position.
