The lumberjack sweep, which is also recognized as the handstand sweep, begins from an open guard position where initial control is established over the opponent's posture and one of their arms to limit their counter options. The maneuver involves lowering your upper body so that it’s as close to the mat as possible, this position will make transitioning easier, place both of your hands firmly on the floor. Then in a fast but controlled motion, transfer your legs upwards over your opponent’s torso, placing your legs behind their shoulder and transferring most of the weight upwards using momentum. The speed in which you do this combined with control of their posture should help bring their weight off of their base and then using momentum will effectively complete the sweep. This motion allows for an explosive, momentum-driven sweep, ending with the practitioner on top.
