Z guard

Alternate names: Low knee shield

Technique Description

Z Guard is a positional guard where most, if not all, of its focus lies in controlling distance as a method for effective control of movement by creating a leg-based barrier against opposing users. The setup typically utilizes your own shin positioning at a specific angle, where it's placed across an opponent's upper thighs to help in limiting both direct forward pressure. This usually comes with both hands connected on their limb for full movement manipulation in conjunction to provide better defense mechanisms using blocking methods in order to give openings and also time for your transitional opportunities with more control using this as a tool. If executed well and precisely, you have a powerful and very controlling approach to effectively defend, sweep, and control the positions, which enables opportunities. The z guard may also be referred to as a low knee shield.
