The Sit-Up Guard is an open guard technique that provides strong control through the direct action of bringing a user's body in a more forward action towards their opponent from lower positions. An effective offensive tactic or technique that utilizes a very core function by forcing themselves more upwards into a controlled and better stance. Starting by controlling your opposition, either by an ankle or even upper areas, such as by controlling your opponent's collars from the guard or similar. While also pulling down using limbs for counterweight, with your body, begin shifting yourself upwards from your seat or lower base towards the upper, controlling positions against them. Once at the higher base, continue towards the single limb, takedowns, or other possible positional or limb locks based on the opportunities given. Transitioning through this position also is helpful in preventing pass-type positions against that guard setup, as you gain both dominance and options for attacks that might open through good transitions.
