Butterfly Ashi

1 / 3
/Overview

Butterfly Ashi acts like a complex blending of multiple positions in BJJ by acting like a hybridized based entanglement type with core and essential properties pulled from different positions. These most commonly include butterfly guard with aspects of leg control used by ashi garami too, effectively utilizing all great features and transitions in the mix for any leg and attack-oriented player. As a way to attack while maintaining base to prepare a great offensive attack system from all guard transitions with or without grips while also controlling distance to control movement. It can also use a hook using a variation to control leg movement while locking the free leg to maintain a better position as they aim for offensive control; these combinations allow various attacking moves. Most notably, those which sweep and take position while also preparing your next action. Versatility like that usually dictates the better choice in many varied situations. Butterfly ashi is most notably used in a no-gi format.
