Butterfly Guard

akaHook Guard
1 / 3
/Overview

The butterfly guard, sometimes called the hook guard, is an agile and offensive guard used from the bottom position. It is particularly effective against standing opponents, putting them in unstable situations that require great balance and experience to handle. This guard relies on using well-placed limb control, where you use your feet along with your body momentum to manipulate the opponent's balance by hooking and elevating their weight. Sit and hold the opponent between your legs, placing your feet firmly on the inside of their thighs. Use hooks in combination with upper body control to off-balance the opponent, creating openings for attacks, distance, sweeps, or positional control transitions.
