Technique Description

The thrust choke, also known as 'tsukkomi jime,' is a direct and forceful submission that primarily targets the opponent's trachea. Commonly performed from inside the closed guard, the technique is best initiated when the opponent's posture begins to rise. Grip the opponent's collars with one hand palm down and the other palm up, resembling a baseball bat grip. While controlling the far collar, use the palm-down hand to forcefully thrust the flat edge of your hand closest to the head directly against the opponent's throat. Simultaneously, pull with the other hand to ensure even pressure on the windpipe. This downward thrusting motion compresses the front of the throat, restricting breathing and ultimately forcing a submission.
