The Sickle Sweep is a foundational technique from open guard, most commonly associated with the De La Riva guard. The attacker uses their outside leg to hook behind the opponent's knee or calf in a reaping motion, resembling a sickle. While controlling the opponent's ankle and upper body (sleeve or collar), the attacker pulls the opponent's weight forward and uses the sickle hook to chop the leg out from under them, resulting in a clean and effective sweep.
