The clock choke is a gi submission typically applied when the opponent is in the turtle position. It involves using body control and a rotational movement to restrict airflow and blood flow to the brain. From a dominant top position, place one leg between the opponent's elbow and knee to gain positional advantage. Use your dominant arm to secure a grip on the opponent's far wrist, and your other hand to grip their far collar or neck. Break their posture by forcing their head towards the mat. Slowly transition around their head in a walking motion, using the pressure against their neck as an axis. This circular movement, like the hands of a clock, will eventually constrict their airways and carotid arteries, leading to a submission. The clock choke may also be effectively executed in a no-gi scenario from similar positions, using under hooks instead of lapel grips.
