Balloon Sweep

akaDouble Sleeve Guard Sweep · Lift Sweep

/Overview

The Balloon Sweep is a fundamental sweep from the closed guard, typically used when an opponent postures up and places their hands on the mat. The attacker secures grips on both of the opponent's sleeves, opens their guard, and places their feet on the opponent's hips. By powerfully extending their legs and lifting with their hips, the attacker elevates the opponent, making them feel weightless like a 'balloon'. With the opponent's center of gravity compromised, the attacker can easily direct them to either side for the sweep.
