The anaconda choke, also known as the 'gator roll,' is a powerful submission technique known for its versatility from dominant positions such as side control or when the opponent is in the turtle position. This technique constricts the opponent's carotid arteries using a combination of arm and shoulder pressure against the neck to reduce blood flow to the brain. From a dominant position, control the opponent's upper body and bring one of their arms tightly across their neck. Position your head on the opposite side of the trapped arm and clasp your hands together, ensuring your forearms connect with their upper back or shoulder. Lower your body weight into the trap and use your arm strength to constrict your grip, increasing pressure against the carotid arteries. This restriction of blood flow leads to a submission. It is worth noting that in submission grappling or MMA a submission may follow up a 'gator roll'.
