The Japanese necktie is an effective strangulation and control method used to pin opponents in position. The move typically uses positions where the head and one arm are secured, such as side control or a headlock. Once controlling a single arm, trap it by bringing it towards the opponent's head as tightly as possible while wrapping or placing your forearm against their neck. Use your body weight as leverage to roll over or transition, maintaining the trap on the head and arm. This continued roll effectively compresses the opponent's neck, leaving little space for oxygen and forcing a tap due to the constricting position. Similarly to the Peruvian Necktie this is commonly applied against a defensive opponent who is blocking other submissions. In particular this submission is common during a side control transition.
