Back mount, also known as rear mount or back control, is a highly dominant position in grappling. It offers the attacking player numerous opportunities for attack while significantly limiting the opponent's defensive options. To achieve back control, position yourself on the opponent's back with your hooks deeply connected to their body. Use your arms and legs to pin their upper and lower body, restricting their movement and exposing them to various submissions, takedowns, and sweeps. The back mount allows for excellent control by utilizing both arms to pin the opponent down and feet securely placed to form a vice-like grip, making escape attempts extremely difficult. From this position, you can open up opportunities for various attacks, including limb-based submissions and neck submissions, solidifying its place in the positional hierarchy of BJJ. The most common submission is probably the Rear Naked Choke (RNC) but various lapel chokes and arm submissions may be effectively applied from this position.
